Thanks for joining us for the 4th Annual Richmond, Va OOTD Community Walk. This years walk will take place RAIN OR SHINE on Saturday, October 26th, Deep Run Park in Henrico County, Va.
A few facts for you to consider:
The walk route is just short of 3 miles. It is handicap accessible.
Dogs are allowed at this walk; we welcome your four legged friends - especially if they can also raise some money :) Please be mindful of the county leash laws, and be aware we will have hundreds of people there. We will have “Paws for Prevention” bandanas on sale for your doggie to wear.
Registration begins at 8:00AM. We hope you will arrive early, so we can get everyone through registration before the 9:00AM opening ceremony. At registration, walkers who have raised $150 or more need to pick up their t-shirts. We have a few extras left over from last year that will be on sale as well. (Larger sizes only)
From 8:00-11:00 we will have "Remembrance Stations" set up These stations include a Memory Wall at which you may post a picture of your loved one and write something on paper provided to post on the wall as well. We will have Frisbees to decorate with sharpies in honor of the loss of your loved one. Color coded ribbons (loss of a child, loss of a parent, loss of a spouse/partner, loss of a sibling, loss of a relative/friend) will be available to wear in honor of your loved one. The Legend of the Crane, a story of hope will be available along with origami paper to make the crane of hope). We will also have services providing information such as mental health care services, wellness, grief support and several others.
The opening ceremony will include guest speakers, each with a different focus on AFSP's mission which is to: work public policy issues, provide education on suicide prevention, support research that will help prevent suicide, and provide survivor support. Please send me the names of your loved ones to my email and we will state their names in their honor as part of the opening ceremony.
The walk will begin about 9:30. Most walkers should be able to complete the walk route within 1 hour.
We hope all walkers will stay around for a short closing ceremony.
We will have photographers on hand to take group pictures. Before and after the walk. We encourage teams to wear team t-shirts, bandanas or what ever you chose in support of AFSP and/or your loved one.
Restrooms are available nearby the walk ceremony site.
We hope this day provides you a chance to come together with family and friends, and to meet others who are understanding of and supportive of AFSP's mission. You may choose to bring a picnic lunch to eat after the walk. There will be water and snacks available for the walkers and coffee too, for the early birds and volunteers.
